For those not in the know: our C Bechstein 9′2″ concert grand piano is one of the most magnificent instruments in the city. Our sound proof, acoustically designed piano room is specifically tuned for this wonderful instrument, optimizing its sound for recordings and performance. Well, here we are, August 11th… and the month is almost up. Not on the calendar, but in our schedule. There are some serious projects occupying us through the end of the month, with fewer and fewer time slots available as the days go by. If you were planning on getting something done in August, get a hold of us as soon as you can so you can make sure the time is there for you. Take advantage of the C. Bechstein concert grand that we have – most do! Take advantage of our one-stop facility where you can record, mix, and master your album, then do the design work for your album cover or press kit, and do one copy or many thousands with us – all in one expertly-staffed place.

It’s never been easier to get your music out in the world. Doing it at Number 9 just makes it sound and look better.

Hayward began recording engineering for RCA in 1969.  Just seven short years later, he found himself as the Chief Engineer for Manta Sound.  In 1985, he returned to the RCA site, now McClear Place, as Vice President and General Manager, where, in partnership with Eric Robertson and Larry Trudel, formed Hands On Productions Music House.  Hayward’s next endeavor, Solar Audio Productions, combined all of his creative and technical talents into the development of an innovative new audio production company.

Notably, Hayward engineered the hit single “Tears are not Enough” in aid of famine relief in Ethiopia.  Produced by David Foster, the song features 62 top Canadian artists including Neil Young, Gordon Lightfoot, Joni Mitchell, and Bryan Adams.  He also produced and engineered the remake of Canada’s National Anthem; “The Revitalization of Oh Canada”.  Both the symphonic and contemporary versions feature some of our countries best musicians and recording artists.

Over the years, Hayward has received over 35 Gold and Platinum Records and a number of Juno, Gemini, ECMA, MIANS and Ampac and nominations.  His credits and his skills fully reflect a reputation that comes only from hard work and dedication to his craft.

Hayward now brings his expansive skill-set and vast experience into Toronto once more, as Chief of Post Production at Number 9 Audio Group.  We look forward to working with him and welcome him into the Number 9 family.

His wonderfully distinct voice will be heard on “Where Did They Go?”, a track recorded specifically for the Jazz For Haiti album.

David is just one among a group of world-class artists who have banded together for this extremely worthwhile international cause. Other artists include (in no particular order) Laila Biali, Larry Bodner, The Shuffle Demons, Jackie Richardson, Aaron Davis, Norm Amadio, Guido Basso, Reg Schwager, Andre Roy, DK Ibomeka, Gord Sheard, Luisito Orbegoso, Jane Bunett, Michael Shand & John McDermott and more.

The entire proceeds from the sales of the album created by these incredible artists – tentatively entitled “Jazz For Haiti” – will go towards the Red Cross’ Haiti Earthquake Appeal. To help maximize the revenue directed to the fund-raising effort, the studio and its staff have donated their time towards the production of the disc, and the artists have all donated their time and songwriting talents to the endeavour.

The album will be available via iTunes and regular retail channels this coming June, and will be decorated with wonderful artwork donated by Kurt Swinghammer.
