DVD | CD Master Preparation : CD | DVD Duplication Toronto

The most important concern of a CD duplication project is the master. This is what is used to make all the subsequent copies, so it is crucial that the master is prepared exactly as intended and free from errors / glitches. Remember to mark your name and project title on the CD/DVD.

The easiest master to use for CD Duplication and DVD duplication is a closed session CD-R/DVD-R. In most cases, simply using your home burning software will produce an adequate master. For software / data CD orders, the disc must have been created using disc-at-once, and must contain only one session. For audio CDs, the CD must have been created as an audio CD – not as an MP3 or other compressed audio format data disc (unless intended).

Maximum Length for CDs
Audio CD Data CD
Standard 74 minutes 650 MB
Over-burn 79 minutes 700 MB

The standard specification for an audio CD is 74 minutes. This means any CD that is 74 minutes or less is guarranteed to play in any CD-player. With data CDs, the limit is 650 MB of information. However, it is possible to create a master CD longer than the standard specifiation. Even though there usually is no problem with duplicated copies from an over-burn, Number 9 recording studios cannot guarantee the complete functionality of any CD longer than the standard specification. If you wish to proceed with an over-burn duplication order, you will be required to sign a waiver in order to begin your project. Please ensure you own the copyright for everything on your master. You will be required to sign a Confirmation of Copyright form in order to begin your project. If you wish to create a master from cassette, DAT, or other audio source or if your master requires editing, see our production studio page for more information.

Maximum Length for DVDs
DVD Video Data DVD
